Detached: "not attached; separated"
"The more you have, the more you are
occupied. The less you have, the more free you are." Mother
Teresa
I realize that this might sound bizarre to
some but the more I detach myself from
everything that is safe and
comfortable the more free I feel. As we move through time
and cut more strings the
less bogged down I feel. Honestly, I feel like a balloon wanting
to set sail for the new
adventure that lies ahead. I'm itching to feel something new, some
thing foreign. And with
the cut of each string I can feel myself closer to that experience.
The thought of detachment is, of course hard,
but really only from a few things in my
life that have
my heart. Detachment from my dear friends, my amazing family, and my
uber-wonderful
job (and current school) are the most difficult for me to think
about
parting from. But even
the scariness of parting from these important things in my life
are not enough to keep us
here.
We know that
through Skype, email, calls, picture exchanges, blog updates, social
media, and more that our lives will
continue to be connected. Additionally,
there will be
trips back to the States
and hopefully some of you will honor your inner itch to find us
on the global playground and play with us.
For us, life
is too short not to take risks, not to live in the moment of a crazy
adventure, and
not to be to the myriad of experiences that await us.
Update: Nathan and I are still tending
to the seeds that have been planted over the last
seven months.
We have notified both of our jobs that we are leaving and will be moving
out of our rental in June and will
need to find shelter for a few weeks until we make the
big move. We have
researched (then researched and then researched some more) how
to properly move abroad
and are making very informed decisions so that we are
successful wherever
we land. Rest assured that this blog will be updated as decisions are
updated. We
understand that this decision affects many people and that we take a lot
of
you with us
vicariously in our hearts, for a lot of you, just like us, are global
adventure
seekers. We will hold onto
you tightly as we take this plunge.

Good luck to you guys! I'm nervous for you, but think it's so awesome how brave you all are! Good luck and we hope to see you at least once a year!! Love ya guys Jess :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jess for the well wishes! Maybe someday you can take a vacation abroad and come stay with us!!
